garment bags and other travel goods. Highly trained workers carefully
construct the bags from components cut to size with the aid of
computers. It is a complex task to incorporate the double-stitching,
reinforced corners, self-healing zippers, integrated handles and
wheels, fashion detailing, and hand-finishing which are so
characteristic of Samsonite® soft luggage.
Hardside luggage includes hard suitcases, attaché
cases and beauty cases. The
manufacture of hardside luggage requires considerable investment in
engineering, Know-how and skilled personnel. Hardside cases are
produced using either injection molding or vacuum forming. Both
processes use molds created by computer-aided design. In injection
molding, high-pressure jets force pellets of polypropylene into a cool
mold. In vacuum forming, flat sheets of heated ABS plastic are pulled
across cool molds under a vacuum.
